Knew and New

I hope you all had a great family weekend!  Your children came back full of turkey and ready to learn.  We had a great day.😍

Students were using base ten blocks to cement their understanding of how ones, tens, and hundreds relate to the number system.  We were very busy with blocks and whiteboards to show our understanding of number.
We looked at a very old but still relevant video to introduce Rocks and Minerals in science.  The humor of the video was corny and most of it went over the heads of our students but the information was great.  They are creating a T chart in their science notebooks with what they 'knew' before the video and what was 'new' in the video.  By using this format they will be showing me that they were thinking while watching the video not just being in the audience.
We had a look at the grade 3 SLA for Reading Comprehension as a whole group and then practiced by ourselves.  Important elements were pointed out such as: read everything, look at the picture, use the sound track where it will read to you and read all the choices there might be two right answers but one is better than the other.  If your child does not have headphones at school now is the time.

Fun Lunch orders by Friday
Headphones and rock now.
Monday Oct. 16 is a system wide PD day
